Defamation: Gospel Artist Nathaniel Bassey Files Petition Against Four Facebook Users

Gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey filed a defamation and cyberstalking petition against four Facebook users last week. The users accused Bassey of being the father of the popular Gospel artist’s son, Mercy Chinwo, who’s married to Pastor Blessed. Kingsley Ibe, one of the Facebook users who was petitioned, has already tendered his apology to both singers, Pst Nathaniel Bassey and Mercy Chinwo.

Mr. Ibe also voluntarily turned himself into police custody for questioning.

Having been alleged by Pst Nathaniel Bassey for fathering the son of Mercy Chinwo in a viral post on Twitter X.

The other three social media users identified with the crime are Okoronkwo Ejike, Terrence Ekot and Dj Spoiltkid.

A press statement released by Bassey’s legal representatives on Monday disclosed that ”The police have taken his statement together with other incontrovertible evidence ready for prosecution over criminal defamation and cyber-related offences.”

According to Pst Nathaniel Bassey’s legal representative in a press statement on Monday, “The police have taken his statement together with other incontrovertible evidence ready for prosecution over criminal defamation and cyber-related offences.”

The accused has shown deep remorse for his actions, as noted in the report.

”Mr. Ibe has shown true repentance for his actions and is committed to turning a new leaf and becoming a more responsible member of society.”

”His aged mother and family members have also apologised on his behalf, and I have decided to extend a hand of fellowship and love towards him.” the legal representative said.

Mr Ibe made an apology video on Monday, where he stated how he regretted his ”reckless” statement.

”To you, pastor Nathaniel Bassey, I express my sincere apology for the comment I made on social media and to your family.”

”I know the damages it has caused, and I take full responsibility, and I am deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart,” Ibe said

”To his fans and followers, to his ministry, the hallelujah challenge and the RCCG Oasis

”I am also a fan of pastor Nathaniel Bassey for the past years and I did not make those comments with the intent to cause harm or evil and I am deeply, deeply sorry.”

Mr Ibe also extended his apology to gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and her family, stating that his statement might have had some implications.

”To minster Chinwo, I know I don’t deserve your mercy, but I am deep, and I ask you to forgive me.”

”To the baby, I know my message was harsh and might cause a negative impact”.
