Top 10 Most Expensive States In Nigeria To Live In.

There are about 10 most expensive states in Nigeria that one should consider. The cost of living in Nigeria has been continuously rising. The Consumer Price Index (CPI), in its March 2024 data, accumulated a consistent increase in inflation rates across all commodities. According to the analysis, this is affecting the daily lives of people living in the country, mainly in some states.

The latest report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows the nation’s inflation rate, which was 33.2% in March 2024. It also highlights the severe economic crisis that is adjusting the cost of living in Nigeria.

Here is a list of the 10 most expensive states in Nigeria to live in.

Top 10 Most Expensive States in Nigeria

  1. Osun State.

Osun State settled at the tenth position on the March 2024 list of most expensive states in Nigeria, moving from the sixth position as of February 2024. For Osun State, March saw a significant increase in all-items inflation to 35.44%, from February’s 34.39%. Food items also rose sharply to 43.55% in the March report, from 41.88% previously in February.

  1. Ondo State.

Ondo State has always remained at the ninth position, even when all the items inflation rate increased to about 35.81% in March, moving from 33.96% in February. There was also an increase in food inflation from February’s 41.42% to March’s 43.45%.

  1. Abia

Abia State remains at the eighth position of one of the most expensive states to live in. All its items inflation saw an increase from 34.12% in February to 36.09% in February. The food inflation rate moved to 44.47% in March from February’s 41.04%.

  1. Akwa Ibom State.

Akwa Ibom State moved from its spot of the tenth most expensive state to live in, in February 2024, to the seventh position on the list in March 2024. In March, an all-items inflation rate of 36.13% was recorded, rising from February’s 33.94%. Currently, the state has experienced an increase in food inflation, which reached over 45.18% in March, compared to 41.44% in February.

  1. Ebonyi State.

Moving from the seventh position in February 2024, Ebonyi State moved to the sixth position on the March 2024’s list. There also was a notable increase in all-items inflation rate to about 36.57% in March from 34.28% in February. The food inflation in March was 44.10% which is higher than February which was 41.63%.

  1. Rivers State.

Rivers State has retained its position as the fifth most expensive state to live in , in Nigeria for the second time. In March 2024, all-items inflation rate moved to 37.20%, up from 35.42% in february. Also, food inflation also increased to 45.08% in March which is higher than February’s report which was 44.34%.

  1. Oyo State.

In the March 2024 report, Oyo state moved from the second position of the most expensive state to live in in Nigeria to the fourth position. The state experienced a rise in the all-item inflation rate to 37.30% in March from 36.60% in February. Food inflation also saw a slight increase to 41. 83% in March from 40.30% in February.

  1. Kwara

Kwara state moved from fourth place in Nigeria as the most expensive state to live in to third place in March 2024.In March, all-items inflation rose to about 38.10% from 35.50% in February. The state also experienced a notable rise in food inflation to  46.18% in March from 43.05% in February 2024.

  1. Bauchi State.

Bauchi state also moved from the third most expensive state in Nigeria to live in February 2024 to the second most expensive state in March 2024. The all-item inflation rate for the month of March 2024 was 38.34%, which was a bit higher than February’s 35.62%. Food inflation was much lower at 34.38% in March, which wasn’t the case in February, when food inflation was 31.46%, which suggests a more complex economic situation.

  1. Kogi State.

Kogi State recorded the highest month-on-month increase of all categories, recording a 1.97% rise in the all-items rate, which is equivalent to a 2.15% increase in food inflation. Kogi State amassed the highest all-item inflation rate in March 2024 at 39.95%, compared to  37.98% in February. Food inflation also moved to 48.47% in March,  higher than the 46.32% recorded in February.
