New President Of Chad Was Sworn Into Office Despite  Disputes During Elections.

The inauguration service of President Mahamat Idris Debu Itno was a big success despite the issues during his election.

The new Chad’s president-elect, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, was sworn into office on Thursday, April 24, 2024, at a ceremony in the capital city of N’Djamena. Many leaders from different regions of the country attended the event, which was hosted a week after it was confirmed that he had won the election on the 6th of May, 2024, with 61 per cent of the total votes.

Record have it that Idriss Deby Itno ruled Chad for over a decade, but his son Mahamat Idriss seized power for three years after his father’s demise. Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has been sworn into power for a five-year term as the new president of Chad.

Deby Junior is a soldier who had sworn to run for Chad’s presidential election in 18 months, but the country’s government postponed the polls and gave him permission to run either way.

Success Masra, a prominent opponent of the junta, garnered over 18.5 per cent of the total votes in the election. Dissatisfied with the outcome, he decided to challenge the results in court, sparking a significant political controversy in Chad, which national NGOs have deemed neither credible nor free.

To prove his anger and disappointment, Success Masra resigned as prime minister of Chad on Wednesday and hence did not attend the inauguration of his opponent and newly elected president, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

Chad, a country that has been grappling with political instability for the past four years, managed to successfully hold an election without triggering another coup, a situation that still looms.
