Kachalla Baleri, Most  Wanted Bandit Leader in Nigeria, has been captured.

Niger Republic troops have captured Kachalla Baleri, the most wanted bandit leader in Nigeria, who escaped to Niger.

Baleri was arrested on Tuesday, May 28, at Rouga Kowa Gwani in the Guidan Roumdji commune and department, by troops from Niger Republic’s Operation Faraoutar Bushiya.

Originally from Shinkafi in Zamfara State, Baleri fled Nigeria to evade capture. The Nigerian army ranked him the 40th most wanted person in Nigeria, and he had a price on his head.

Baleri was a close associate of the infamous Bello Turji and had been terrorising Zamfara and Maradi regions.

 The chief of the tactical staff of Operation Faraoutar Bushiya, Colonel Mohamed Almoctar Seydou Niandou, Balleri, was arrested at about 1 pm during a clearance operation 10km east of Tankama.

The report has it that he was already meeting with his men to plan an attack when he was arrested.

 Issoufou Mamane, the Governor of the CGP, and the Prosecutor of the Republic Adamou Abdou Adam, gave a speech at the ceremony of criminals, hailing the professionalism and commitment of the SDFs used on the group.

The Governor asserted that the arrest marks a significant achievement in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.
