Abuja—The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning of potential flooding across several southern states, including Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa, due to anticipated “very heavy” rainfall. The advisory, released this week, underscores the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness among residents and authorities in the affected regions.

According to NiMet, the forecasted deluge is expected to significantly impact communities, infrastructure, and farmlands, with the risk of severe flooding particularly high in low-lying areas and regions with poor drainage systems. The agency has urged state governments and disaster management agencies to take proactive measures to mitigate the potential damage and ensure the safety of residents.

In a detailed briefing, NiMet highlighted that the heavy rainfall is part of a broader weather pattern influenced by the ongoing wet season and climatic conditions in the Atlantic Ocean.
