Lawan Urges FG to Prevent Hunger-Induced Protests Following Kenya Uprising

In the wake of the recent Kenya uprising, Senate President Ahmed Lawan has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, urging proactive measures to avert similar hunger-induced protests in Nigeria. Addressing the Senate during a special session, Lawan emphasized the urgency of addressing food insecurity and economic hardship that have been exacerbated by rising inflation and unemployment rates.

“The situation in Kenya serves as a critical reminder of the devastating consequences of food shortages and economic distress,” Lawan stated. “We must not wait until our citizens are driven to the streets by hunger. Immediate action is required to stabilize our food supply and support vulnerable populations.”

Lawan called for a comprehensive strategy to tackle food insecurity, including boosting agricultural production, improving food distribution networks, and providing financial assistance to struggling families. He highlighted the need for collaboration between federal and state governments, as well as partnerships with international organizations and the private sector.

“The government must prioritize policies that enhance food production and accessibility,” Lawan continued. “We need to invest in our agricultural sector, support our farmers, and ensure that food reaches every corner of the country. This is not just about preventing protests; it’s about safeguarding the well-being of our people.”

The Senate President also urged the government to address the broader economic challenges facing the nation, such as unemployment and inflation, which contribute to the underlying causes of hunger and social unrest. He called for targeted economic reforms and social welfare programs to alleviate the burden on Nigerian families.

Lawan’s warning comes at a critical time, as Nigeria grapples with economic instability and a growing population of citizens living below the poverty line. His message underscores the need for immediate and decisive action to prevent a potential crisis fueled by hunger and economic hardship.
