Another Gas Explosion At Shell Gas Facility In Bayelsa State Leaves Indigenes Confused.

There was another gas explosion at Shell facility in Bayelsa. Mr. Michael Adande, the spokesman for Shell, agrees with the several gas explosions that occurred near the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) gas processing plant in Bayelsa State, Gbarain, Yenagoa Local Government area.

The spokesman, Mr. Michael, confirmed that the explosion happened at the Shell facility in Gbarain but did not disclose the cause of the explosion.

In his words, Mr. Michael said: “We are actively monitoring reports of smoke detected near our Gbaran central processing facility in Bayelsa State.

“While the source appears to be external to our facility, we are in close communication with regulatory authorities to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of the surrounding communities.”

The issue is a major concern that has drawn attention to the importance of gas exportation.

According to Michael, the explosion happened on May 14,  2024, during supplies in a pipeline transporting gas.

The speaker narrated that the cause of the explosion was based on the attack they received from some suspected thugs who attacked the pipeline, which resulted in an explosion and the release of black smoke into the air.

He continued and confirmed that when the operators were alerted, immediate actions were taken to resolve the issue and reduce the pressure by isolating the affected pipeline. However, the fact remains that there must have been some carelessness before the pipelines were attacked.

Reports have it that there were no casualties during the explosion and that the operators had managed to handle the matter and resolve it.

According to reports on Tuesday, Amnesty International had called on the Nigerian government to hold Shell responsible for the pollution and human rights abuses caused by oil spillage and gas flares in the Niger Delta region. The Nigerian citizens are obviously in distress, as the oil spillage and gas flare can be very detrimental to the people’s health. Amnesty International is only fighting to restore the people’s health, which is part of their human rights.

After this report, it was announced that the Nigerian oil industry regulator was prepared to provide a fast-track sales approval process for all oil companies that were interested in selling their oil to the country. This is also a major concern that seeks redress. It seems like many oil marketers and companies may want to comply to these incentives.
