Governor Eno Allocates N1 Million to Each Resident Doctor in Akwa Ibom

Governor Eno of Akwa Ibom has approved the disbursement of N1 million to each resident doctor in the state. This decision comes amidst ongoing efforts to enhance medical services and address the pressing needs of healthcare professionals.

The approval was announced during a press briefing held at the Government House in Uyo. Governor Eno highlighted the crucial role resident doctors play in the healthcare system and emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving their welfare and working conditions.

“This allocation is a testament to our dedication to supporting our medical professionals who work tirelessly to ensure the health and well-being of our citizens,” Governor Eno stated. “We recognize the challenges they face and are determined to provide them with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively.”

The financial support is expected to alleviate some of the financial burdens resident doctors encounter, enabling them to focus more on their professional responsibilities. It is also seen as a strategic move to curb the brain drain phenomenon, where skilled medical practitioners seek better opportunities abroad due to unfavorable working conditions at home.

Dr. Emem Udom, the President of the Resident Doctors Association in Akwa Ibom, expressed gratitude on behalf of her colleagues. “This is a much-needed relief and a positive step towards addressing some of the longstanding issues we face. We appreciate the governor’s proactive approach and hope this will lead to further improvements in our healthcare system,” Dr. Udom remarked.

The initiative has garnered widespread acclaim from various stakeholders within the state, including healthcare advocates and civil society organizations. Many see it as a forward-thinking policy that prioritizes the health sector and underscores the importance of investing in human capital for sustainable development.

Governor Eno’s administration continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to healthcare, and this latest move is expected to have a lasting positive impact on the sector.
