“Nigeria government lacks order of priority”, Nigerian Slams FG over change of Nigeria’s anthem.

Nigerians are currently stirring reactions over the Federal Government’s change of Nigeria’s anthem.  The Nigerian government announced its decision to reinstate the old national anthem, a decision many Nigerians have criticised as a “misplaced priority.” The announcement was made during a press briefing by the Minister of Information and Culture, who highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the original anthem.

The old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” was Nigeria’s anthem from independence in 1960 until it was replaced in 1978 by the current anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots.” The government’s decision to revert to the former has been met with mixed reactions.

Critics argue that this move diverts attention from more pressing national issues such as insecurity, economic instability, and the ongoing challenges in the education and health sectors. Social media platforms have been abuzz with Nigerians expressing their discontent, with many describing the decision as an unnecessary distraction.

“Nigerians are facing numerous challenges daily, and instead of addressing these critical issues, the government is focused on changing the national anthem,” said Adebayo Adeolu, a political analyst. “This is a clear case of misplaced priority.”

Supporters of the decision, however, believe that reinstating the old anthem could help foster a sense of unity and national pride. They argue that the original anthem carries significant historical value and could inspire a renewed sense of patriotism among Nigerians.

Despite these differing viewpoints, the predominant sentiment appears to be one of frustration. Many citizens have called on the government to redirect its focus towards policies and actions that will directly improve the living conditions of the Nigerian populace.

As the debate continues, the government has urged Nigerians to embrace the change, emphasising that the move is part of broader efforts to reconnect with the country’s historical roots. Whether this decision will achieve its intended effect or remain a point of contention remains to be seen.
