President Ruto withdraws planned tax increase in Kenya after deadly protest.

President Williams Ruto of Kenya has withdrawn his planned tax increase, because of the heat from the protesters who came to the parliament to cause a riot across the entire country with threats of more violence within the week.

This youth crisis is the most serious crisis of president William Ruto’s two years of presidency. The movement has turned out to become a major victory for over a week now. It all started from online condemnation of tax increase to a massive rally which has called out government attention.

Many Protestant are already making demands that the president resign from office. Despite his change of mind on the suspension of the bill. Many Protestants are really to carry out another rally on Thursday.

The president later announced that he was unable to sign a finance bill because of the rally ,a day after the police had a clash with the protesters nationwide at the assembly which left 23 people dead and many injured.

“Listening keenly to the people of Kenya, who have said loudly that they want nothing to do with this finance bill 2024, I concede. And therefore, I will not sign the 2024 finance bill, and it shall subsequently be withdrawn,” The president said this in an interview with lawmakers, where some were clapping behind him.

Rigathi Gachagua, the vice president of Kenya came out to tell the youths to call off the protest to prevent more lives being lost and further destruction of properties. He also blamed the intelligence unit of the country for feeding the government with bad advice.

“There would have been no mayhem, but they slept on the job,” Gachagua said in a speech, calling on the head of the National Intelligence Service to resign.Protesters were defiant, repeating calls for Ruto to step down and vowing further action in the streets.Boniface Mwangi, a prominent social justice activist involved in the protests, called for a “1-million-people march.”

“The arrogance is gone, but the lies are still there,” he said on social media platform X. “Yesterday they unleashed goons and police to kill peaceful protesters. That will not stop us.”
