Two suspected kidnappers killed by the Police who also rescued abducted travellers in Ogun state.

Three Indians and a Nigerian were reduced by ogun state police officers , who also killed the Two kidnappers at the spot. They were kidnapped at Delabo junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Wednesday, said two of the kidnappers who abducted four travellers, along Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway on Sunday night were killed during gun duel with police

On June 30, 2024, the Divisional Police Officer in Ikenne recieved a distressing call according to the reports from people who witnessed the kidnapping incident at 7:10pm close to Delabo junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway.

Some of the  weapons that were recovered from the kidnappers were 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, eight AK magazines and a cell phone.

A police spokeman Alamutu also said that some unidentified armed personnel who they suspect also to be kidnappers rode a grey colour-Toyota Rav 4 jeep with the registration number AGL 16JE.

He said, “the armed men, who emerged from an unregistered Venza car, fired four shots at the driver’s side tyre and another at the rear side of the driver, forcing the vehicle to a stop.

“Subsequently, they forcefully abducted the occupants of the vehicle, and fled towards Ijebu-Ode.

“Upon receiving the distress call, the anti-kidnapping squad of the Ogun State Command was dispatched with explicit instructions to pursue the fleeing suspects.

“Through a covert operation, the suspects were located in a bush where they were hiding. Upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, they engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team.

“The Anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons.

“The victims later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families”.

He also stated that the state government are always dedicated to protecting lives and properties of their people which is their core duty and responsible.

He also added that a team of rapid response were been sent to stay on standby securing the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

The commissioner of police told members of the public to always report suspicious people, people with gunshots injuries as this will help them to trace other kidnappers who had escaped with injury.
