YouTube Launches AI Labelling Tool To Tackle Misinformation And Promote Creativity

It’s shocking to know that most content on social media today is AI-generated.  Yeah, we are beginning to have lots of fake content on social media,  especially on YouTube.  Reasons why YouTube launches AI labelling tool that will help different content creators to indicate to viewers when a particular video contains AI-generated or uses unrealistic materials. It is a medium to improve transparency and trust with its users.

YouTube is about to change that by including in its creator studio its new content labelling tool that will help viewers to distinguish between AI-generated content from human content.  When different creators are uploading or posting their videos on the platform, they are expected to disclose to the audience whether the content is “altered or synthetic”, not excluding generative AI (GenAI), which is used to show something spectators could misunderstand for a real individual, event or place. 

Creators do not need to tell viewers when they utilize AI for simple moves like writing scripts, searching audio, and generating ideas. The moment a creator has labelled their content with the tool provided by YouTube, all their viewers will notice the label tag in the description section. However, the content they create for sensitive topics like health and politics will have the label shown right on the video itself to indicate it. 

This new policy does not need creators to show content “that is obviously unrealistic, animated, special effects, or generative AI used for production.”

YouTube also noted that it won’t need creators to publicize GenAI if they use it for their productivity and creativity, such as writing scripts, content ideas, or captions.

The tool in YouTube’s Content Creator Studio builds labels that will show in a developed description in the front of the video player.

YouTube also stated that viewers will start to see  the change in coming weeks firstly  on all mobile phones  and very soon on desktop and TVs.

In the last  month, other Meta Platforms also listed plans to label images used on their platforms that are formulated by opponents’ AI services, a strategy for  industry players to work with  common specialized standards which indicates  when AI is used to create content.
